Costs in Iceland

Yes, it's an expensive country.
Just a few examples:
- Average meal: expect to pay between USD 10-20 for a basic lunch/dinner. Even street food it's quite expensive. A small hot dog it's about USD 5.
- Airport transfer to the city: There're 3 companies that run regular services between Keflavik airport and Reykjavik. An average of USD 25/30 each way. There's a cheaper option using local bus (read this post).
- Pint of draft beer: USD 5 during happy hour. USD >8 regular price.
- Gas: Around USD 2 / lt. Not much difference between diesel/unleaded.
- Sleeping: In Reykjavik a shared room in a Hostel starts from USD 25/30. Private doble/twin in a cheap guesthouse from USD 50.

Just a few tips:
- Tap water is really clean all around Iceland, so buying bottled water is not a must.
- There's a lot of difference between the big supermarkets (like Bonus) and the small ones. You can pay up to 4X fold for the same product!
- I highly reccomend not to use the "full tank" option in gas pumps. I explain HERE why.
- Instead of sleeping in a Hostel/Hotel you can try using AirBnb. Is way cheaper and I always had excelent experiences using it (not only in Iceland). You can use my link on the right side to register your account. You get USD 10 discount on your first reservation and I also get another USD 10. Win/win.

(If you never used Airbnb before and want to know how it works just follow THIS link)
